The insurgence of the camera into the world of visual media has been often bemoaned by artists who ply their trade in paints and charcoal. It is true enough that with the growing popularity of photography illustrators, in particular, are finding themselves out of the Golden Age of Wyeth and Leyendecker, but the advent of a method of capturing real life more to-the-detail accurate than even the most photo-realistic painter could ever achieve has brought its own benefits. It is not enough to accurately render, an artist must have a clear and definite outlook on the world. An artist's mission is not to show the world as it is, but to show it as only they can see it. This blog exists to showcase an ongoing series that combines photography and digital painting, the goal of which is to transform the real world as captured by the camera into an image that imparts to the viewer my own impressions and ideas as inspired by the scene, the events that provoked the photograph, or the photograph itself.
And, of course, to express my love of my city.
I love you Salem,
